Build Your Own Baby / New Mama Gift Box
Someone you know just had a baby, or is about to. The registry is handled. The onesies are covered. What most new parents actually run short of in the first weeks is simpler: another swaddle when the first two are in the wash, something that soothes the baby at 4 a.m., and anything at all that's just for mom.
That's the box worth building.
This guide walks through three combinations you can put together in our Build Your Own Gift Box builder, using items chosen for one reason: they get used in the first weeks, not photographed once and shelved.
We'll cover:
- How the build-your-own builder works
- A first-weeks combo for the baby
- A combo just for the new mama
- One box that covers both of them
- The already-built option if you'd rather not choose
How building a baby gift box works
Start with the box itself. The Build Your Own Gift Box starts at $12, then you fill it from more than 500 in-stock gifts. Pick 3 to 5 items, add your gift message, and we pack it in our Minnesota warehouse and ship it ready to hand over.
One thing has changed since we first published this guide: baby is now a category we make ourselves. Liam & Louisa is our own baby brand, designed in-house, so several picks below come straight from our shelves rather than a supplier's.
Combo 1: For the baby, the first-weeks kit
Four items, each with a daily job:
- Bea Bunny, Classic Plush Weighted White Bunny ($22). A gently weighted plush from our Liam & Louisa line that works as a calming snuggle companion. This is the toy that ends up in every photo for the next three years.
- Soft Muslin Baby Swaddle Blanket ($20). Double gauze, 43" x 43", in five colors including sage and ivory. New parents use these as swaddle, stroller cover, nursing shield, and burp backup, which is why one is never enough.
- Rainbow Spokes Silicone Baby Teether ($14). Soft silicone with wooden accents. Lives in the diaper bag from month three on.
- Guess How Much I Love You Board Book ($9.50). The bedtime shelf starts somewhere.
Around $65 in gifts before the box. Nothing decorative, nothing outgrown in a month.
Combo 2: For the new mama
The baby will get plenty of gifts. Mom probably won't. If you only build one box, consider making it this one:
- Cozy Cloud Socks, Seashell Pink ($16). Soft terry socks for the long stretches on the sofa with a sleeping newborn.
- French Lavender Body Butter ($17) from Old Whaling Company. Shea butter and aloe, absorbs fast enough to use one-handed.
- Relaxing Bath Soak ($8). Epsom salt with lavender and peppermint, for the first bath that's actually about her.
- Mama To Be Flower Tea ($20). A raspberry leaf and nettle herbal blend made for expecting mothers, which makes this the pick when the box is a shower gift rather than a hospital send.
More comfort options live in our Self-Care & Wellness collection if you want to swap anything.
Combo 3: One box for both of them
Splitting the box down the middle is often the gift that lands best, because it says you thought about the whole household:
- Soft Muslin Baby Swaddle Blanket ($20) for the baby.
- Baby's First Hairbrush ($14). A beechwood brush with soft bristles from Liam & Louisa. Small, useful, and the kind of thing nobody thinks to buy themselves.
- Cozy Cloud Socks ($16) for mom.
- French Lavender Body Butter ($17) for mom.
Rather not build it yourself? Send the Nest & Nurture crate
If choosing five items sounds like one more decision than the week allows, the Nest & Nurture Gift Crate ($153) is the first-weeks kit already assembled: the Bea Bunny weighted plush, a muslin swaddle blanket, Guess How Much I Love You, the Rainbow Spokes teether, Baby's First Hairbrush, and Liam & Louisa footie pajamas, packed in a wooden crate with an enclosure card carrying your message. It's the box we'd build for our own people, so we built it once and kept it stocked.
